ULEZ Update: Sadiq Khan’s Controversial Message to Tradespeople

The ULEZ update is once again causing a stir, with London mayor Sadiq Khan landing at the centre of a heated debate. Disregarding intensified calls to delay the expansion of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), Khan suggested tradespeople should willingly ditch their old vans for ULEZ-compliant models.

His reasoning? He believes switching would reduce their chances of developing health conditions like asthma. Fewer health problems would equate to fewer days off work. On the surface, it might seem like a ULEZ update win-win, but the notion that tradespeople have the luxury of taking time off is laughable, not to mention the questionable ‘science’ behind such claims.

Come 29 August, Khan’s ambitious plan to broaden the ULEZ to encompass all London boroughs will kick in. This move, following a victorious legal bout against five Conservative-led local councils, means non-compliant vehicles will soon face a crippling £12.50-a-day charge across Greater London.
